Week 9 College Football Preview
Week 9 College Football Preview Picks: Ok State (+13), Kansas (-2), PSU(-2), Tenn (+7), Arizona (+15), Va Tech (+4 ½) Last week: 5-1 Season: 9-5 (64%) It feels like all I have been talking about in these previews have been The Texas Longhorns and I guess rightfully so they are the number one team in the nation and looks like it. Texas’ daunting schedule with four ranked teams in a row gets a little easier in my opinion with Oklahoma State Cowboys coming to town. Texas has been saying all the right things about being ranked number one in the first installment of the BCS but talk is good and execution is better. The line is already at 13 which seem kind of big given that OSU is ranked in the top 10 but Colt McCoy is completed 80% of his passes which is unheard of in football, college or pros. The Longhorns will prevail but will not cover. Texas Tech has played a very soft schedule, but is still undefeated as well in the Big 12 they will face Kansas this weekend. There should be a lot of scoring in this game with three hiesman candidates lighting up the score board in Harrell, Crabtree and Reesing. I don’t buy into Tech success; I see them loosing on Saturday and then getting blown out next week vs. Texas then free falling in the standings. The third huge impact game of the weekend has to be Penn St going into to Columbus with a shot at going to the National Championship game. I know people are thinking this is a home game for the Buckeyes and coming off the impressive win vs. Michigan State OSU is back and ready for the upset. I don’t agree, teams have gone into Columbus and come away with a victory. Plus Penn State is just better at every position thus I think PSU wins this one easily. SEC I have been calling for an Alabama upset for a couple of weeks taking the points against the Tide, but again I don’t see Alabama loosing to a Tennessee team that looks absolutely lost at times. I think Phil Fullmer is living off reputation then actual on field success, so I won’t call for the upset but I will take the pts again. The Georgia Bulldogs were once this season darling team, after there lose people have seemed to forget about them. With their strong tandem of QR and RB I see them going into to Baton Rouge and coming away with a victory over LSU. ACC Someone in the ACC is going to have to win this thing and this weekend’s match up between Florida State and Va Tech may help decide that. Virginia Tech seems too win these tough match ups more then FSU has in the recent history of the ACC but this one will be in Tallahassee where the Hokies do not play well. I still think FSU has not regained their glory from years past and Va Tech will win. Pac 10 There is only one team that really matters in the Pac 10 and that is obliviously the USC Trojans who will be going down to Tucson to play the Wildcats. USC has out scored their last three opponents 141 to 10, this one should be closer then last weeks drubbing of WSU and will be a key game in Arizona history to take another step forward to respectability. Wildcats will keep it close and USC will not cover the 15 point line.
