Doom and Gloom for the Angels Yet Again

WOW did that game last night look early similar to previous playoff games in years past. I guess fool heartedly I went into these playoffs with a bit more confidence then I have ever before.  With the new additions to the lineup and the fact that Manny is gone and Ortiz does not look the same I thought we would for sure have the advantage over the Red Sox.  Well I guess something never changes.  We are on the verge of being dominated by one team in the playoffs more then any other team has ever been.  With one more lose in a row the Red Sox with break the record of consecutive playoff victories in a row against one opponent.I feel the key to the angel’s offense is two fold.  The obvious one is the need for more then just singles to score some runs.  The Angels were unable to record an extra base hit last night and the fact they couldn't hit with men in scoring position really hurt any of their rallies.  The second key is Chone Figgins; this lineup is stacked anyone can see we have as good of a lineup as Boston, but the big difference last night was that Ellsberry and Pedroia were on base constantly.I have always not been the biggest fan of Chone, suggesting that he should be traded, but some how last year he was unstoppable.  This year on the other hand seem like he is incapable of hitting a fastball case in point the final out of the game where Papellbon basically through fastballs by all of our guys, with no one making contact. (Oh by the way why did Juan Riviera not pinch hit in the 9th or play instead of Gary Mathews Jr?)With all the negative that came out of last night; I still have some confidence in this team that they can put the post season horror show against Boston and make this a series.  Besides when they won the World Series in 2002 and they lost the first game to the Yankees I thought it was over then and there.Boston is not unbeatable, the Angels just need a little luck, timely hitting and to play smart baseball and the series could still be theirs.
