News and Notes From NFL

The position in the NFL that is the most highly over paid and speculative has to be the WR's.  This position is solely dependent on the rest of the team and can rarely achieve greatness with mediocre talent around them."Jacksonville signed free agent wide receiver Jerry Porter, Cleveland Donte Stallworth, Minnesota Bernard Berrian and Oakland Javon Walker. Through three weeks of this season, the receivers that signed a combined $162 million worth of contracts -- $162 million! -- have caught eight passes for 135 yards. That's it." Clearly these teams overpaid and now look like they have invested huge sums of money incorrectly.  Anything can mess up a WR's success.  Changes in QB's, teams or even systems can destroy a players value.  That’s why the Broncos have done it right with drafting them and not being sucked into the over hyped first rounders from big colleges.  They now have one of the more dynamic receiving core built from a second and forth round picks in Royal and Marshall. Speaking of things that are speculative and overrated, wow do the Green Bay Packers look better every time Farve suits up for the Jets.  The Iron Man of football looks to be made of a heavy metal in an anemic offense while Rodgers might not be the new Montana but he certainly is not looking like the old Farve. "Not only has Aaron Rodgers not thrown an interception in 99 attempts this year, but he hasn't even had a single ball tipped at the line." I would say that is productive. Finally Matt Millen was fired by the Detroit Lions, maybe there is hope for our American made cars after all.   Is it me or is this some sort of bizzaro world where Kerry Collins, Trent Green and Kurt Warner are starting QB’s?
